Features
Light therapy is being used successfully to treat a wide range of mental, emotional, and physical problems and for developing human potential. Examples are:
Our contention is: white light is usually more appropriate than other colors; soft light is more likely to help in reducing stress than harsh bright light; and duration of exposure is mostly a matter of personal preference. The positive experiences of tens of thousands of satisfied individuals who are using some kind of light therapy system validate this view.
Morning StarLight features:

Light has been valued
throughout
history as a source of healing. Today the therapeutic applications of
light
are being investigated in major hospitals and research centers
worldwide.
Results indicate that full-spectrum white light can have therapeutic
value
for a range of conditions from chronic pain and depression to immune
disorders.
Many health disorders can be traced to problems with the circadian
rhythm,
the body's inner clock, and how it governs the timing of sleep, hormone
production, body temperature, and other biological functions.
Disturbances
in this rhythm can lead to health problems such as depression and sleep
disorders. Natural sunlight and various forms of light therapy
can
help reestablish the body's natural rhythm and are becoming an integral
treatment for many related health conditions.
When light enters the eye, millions of light- and color-sensitive cells called photoreceptors convert the light into electrical impulses. These impulses travel along the optic nerve to the brain where they trigger the hypothalamus gland to send chemical messengers called neurotransmitters to regulate the autonomic (automatic) functions of the body. The hypothalamus is part of the endocrine system whose secretions govern most bodily functions-blood pressure, body temperature, breathing, digestion, sexual function, moods, the immune system, the aging, process, and the circadian rhythm. Full-spectrum light (containing all wavelengths of visible light) sparks the delicate impulses that regulate these functions and maintain health.
Full-spectrum white light (preferred because the additional UV light found in some full-spectrum light systems is not necessary to achieve the antidepressant effect of the therapy, and is harmful with protracted direct exposure to the eyes) is an effective treatment for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as the "winter blues." The symptoms of SAD are depression, excess sleeping and eating, a withdrawn feeling, and lowered sex drive. Melatonin levels are found to be very high in persons with SAD. Daily exposure to sunlight or to full-spectrum white light has been known to eliminate SAD symptoms.
Delayed sleep phase syndrome (falling asleep late 2:30-3:00 A.M.) may also be treated with light. By getting a dose of light therapy in the morning, the day starts earlier and patients fall asleep earlier at night. Light therapy early in the night works similarly for those who fall asleep early and wake early, allowing them to sleep later.
Does insurance cover the cost of a light therapy system?
Yes, an ever increasing number of insurance companies are reimbursing their clients for the purchase of light therapy systems for treatment of SAD, sleep disorders, PMS and maladaption to shift work. We have an insurance form that list the correct DSMIV-R code and other supporting evidence for the doctor to fill out.
